For many first time visitors, this process can feel different from checking into a large hotel in Seoul or Busan. Don't worry. It's straightforward once you know the steps. As your guide, I want to walk you through the typical check in process so you can feel confident and relaxed when we arrive.

1. Arrival and Approaching the Front Desk

We'll pull up to the motel, usually a one or two story building with rooms that open directly to the parking lot. This is very common in smaller towns near national parks. The front desk is often a small office near the entrance. Your guide will usually handle the initial group check in with the hotel, but you'll need to be present to receive your key.

What to Have Ready:

• Your passport. This is your primary ID in the US.
• The credit card you used to book the tour, if possible. While Parang Tour handles the room cost, the motel may ask for a card to put on file for incidental charges (like phone calls or damages, though these are rare).

2. The Check-In Conversation

When it's your turn, you'll approach the counter. The clerk will greet you. A simple "Hello" back is perfect. They will ask for your name to find the reservation, which will be under "Parang Tour" or sometimes your own name if provided during booking.

Key Phrases You Might Hear:

• "May I see your ID, please?" → Hand them your passport.
• "Could I have a credit card for incidentals?" → You can hand them a card. They will typically just scan it and hand it back. They are not charging it.
• "How many keys will you need?" → Usually, two keys per room are standard. You can say "Two, please."

3. Receiving Your Key and Information

You won't get a plastic key card like in big hotels. You'll receive one or two actual metal keys, often attached to a large keychain or a plastic tag with the room number. The clerk will also give you a paper receipt or a small map showing your room's location.

Important Details on the Paper:

• Check out time: This is usually between 10 AM and 11 AM. We will inform you of our exact departure time the night before.
• Wi Fi password: This is often printed on the paper. Motel Wi Fi can be slower than in Korea, but it's usually sufficient for messaging.
• Breakfast information: If breakfast is included (as it is on our 2 day tours), the hours and location (often a small dining area near the lobby) will be listed.

PRO TIP: Room Location Don't be surprised if your room is on the second floor with no elevator. Many classic motels are walk ups. If you have mobility concerns, please let us know when you book your tour via KakaoTalk, and we can request a first floor room in advance.

4. Finding Your Room and First Entry

Your room number will be on the key tag. Rooms are usually arranged in rows. Go to your room, insert the key, turn it, and push the door open. American doors can be heavier than Korean ones.

What to Check Immediately:

1. Lights: Flip the switch just inside the door.
2. Air Conditioning/Heating: There will be a unit under the window or on the wall. You can adjust the temperature.
3. Bathroom: Ensure the toilet flushes and the shower has hot water. It's rare, but if something is not working, you can call the front desk (the number is usually on the room phone) or inform your guide right away.

The room will have basic amenities: beds, a TV, a small desk, and a bathroom with towels and soap. It is clean and functional, designed for travelers to rest after a day of exploration, like on our 1 Night 2 Day Grand Canyon Tour.

5. Settling In and What to Know for the Night

Security: Always use the deadbolt and chain lock on the inside of your door before sleeping. Noise: Walls in older motels can be thin. It's polite to keep voices down, especially later at night. Ice & Vending: There is often a shared ice machine and soda vending machine in a central courtyard. You can use these freely. Parking: Parking is free and right in front of your room. Our tour vehicle will be parked nearby.
