Best Month for a Grand Canyon Tour: A Guide for Korean Travelers
Every week someone asks us on KakaoTalk: "When should I visit the Grand Canyon?" The answer depends on what you care about most. Crowds? Weather? Photography? Milky Way shots? After running 2박3일 그랜드캐년 투어 and 1박2일 코스 from LA and Vegas for over a decade, here's what we've learned about each month.
1. March through May: Spring Awakening (봄)
Weather & Conditions
Spring is when the South Rim shakes off winter. Daytime temps climb from 50°F (10°C) in March to 70°F (21°C) by May. Antelope Canyon starts letting in those famous light beams around late March, peaking in April and May when the sun angle is just right.
Crowds
March is quiet. April starts picking up. May is busy, especially Memorial Day weekend. If you want elbow room at Horseshoe Bend, book early April.
Photo Light
This is golden hour season. The air is crisp, dust is low, and the light at Desert View Watchtower around 6 PM is chef's kiss. Antelope Canyon's light beams are visible roughly 10 AM to 1 PM on clear days.
Milky Way
March and April are excellent. The galactic core rises after midnight, so if you're on our 2박3일 투어 and we camp near the rim, you'll catch it before sunrise. May starts getting shorter nights.
2. June through August: Peak Summer (여름)
Weather & Conditions
Hot. South Rim averages 80°F (27°C), but the canyon floor hits 105°F+ (40°C+). Antelope Canyon is a furnace at noon. Zion Canyon can feel like a sauna. Monsoon season starts mid-July, bringing afternoon thunderstorms and flash flood warnings.
Crowds
This is high season. Families, international groups, everyone. Parking lots fill by 9 AM. Antelope Canyon slots book out weeks in advance. If you're doing our 당일투어 from Vegas (midnight departure), you'll beat some crowds but not all.
Photo Light
Midday is harsh. Early morning and late evening are your friends. Antelope's light beams are still visible but the crowds inside make it tough to get clean shots. Horseshoe Bend at sunset is packed shoulder to shoulder.
Milky Way
June and July are peak Milky Way months. The galactic core is visible right after sunset, so you don't need to stay up until 2 AM. August brings monsoon clouds that can block the view, but when it clears, the post-rain air makes stars pop.
| Month | Avg High (South Rim) | Crowd Level | Milky Way Visibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| June | 80°F (27°C) | High | Excellent |
| July | 84°F (29°C) | Very High | Good (monsoons) |
| August | 82°F (28°C) | High | Good (monsoons) |
3. September through October: Fall Sweet Spot (가을)
Weather & Conditions
This is the secret window. September is still warm (75°F / 24°C) but crowds thin out after Labor Day. October is perfect: 65°F (18°C), crisp air, golden aspens at higher elevations near Zion. Monsoons taper off by mid-September.
Crowds
September is medium. October is busy again (fall break, international tourists), but nothing like summer. You'll get space to breathe at Horseshoe Bend and won't wait 20 minutes for a bathroom at Desert View.
Photo Light
Fall light is magic. Lower sun angle, warmer tones, longer golden hour. Antelope Canyon's beams fade after September, but the ambient glow inside is still stunning. Route 66 shots near Seligman look like vintage postcards.
Milky Way
September is still strong. October starts losing the core earlier in the evening, but if you're on our 2박3일 A/B 코스 and we catch it around 8 PM, it's still breathtaking.
4. November through February: Winter Solitude (겨울)
Weather & Conditions
Cold. South Rim gets snow. Temps range from 20°F to 45°F (-7°C to 7°C). Antelope Canyon is chilly but open. Zion is quiet and stunning with snow-dusted red rocks. Some years the North Rim closes entirely (it's higher elevation), but South Rim and our core route stay open.
Crowds
Barely anyone. Thanksgiving week and Christmas/New Year see a small bump, but otherwise you might have Horseshoe Bend nearly to yourself. Seriously.
Photo Light
Winter light is low and soft all day. Shadows are long even at noon. Antelope Canyon won't have beams (sun angle too low), but the blue and orange walls still glow. Sunrise at Desert View with snow on the canyon rim is otherworldly.
Milky Way
The galactic core isn't visible in winter (it's a summer constellation), but if you care about stars in general, winter skies are the clearest. You'll see Orion, the Pleiades, and the winter Milky Way arm stretching overhead.
5. Our Honest Recommendation
If you want the best all-around experience:
Late April, early May, or late September, early October. Weather is comfortable, crowds are manageable, light is beautiful, and Milky Way is still visible.
If you want Antelope Canyon light beams:
April or May, mid-morning slot. Book early. These fill fast.
If you want solitude and don't mind cold:
January or February. You'll have the canyon to yourself. Bring a good jacket.
If you're visiting Korea family in summer and this is your only window:
June or late August. Avoid mid-July (monsoon peak). Start early, hydrate, embrace the heat.
| Priority | Best Month(s) |
|---|---|
| Light beams in Antelope | April, May |
| Milky Way photography | June, July, September |
| Fewest crowds | January, February |
| Comfortable weather | April, May, September, October |
| Budget (off-season) | November through March |

Frequently asked
What's the best month for Antelope Canyon light beams?
April and May are peak months. Light beams appear roughly 10 AM to 1 PM on clear days when the sun angle is high enough. Book your slot early as these fill quickly during spring.
Can I see the Milky Way in summer?
Yes. June and July are actually peak Milky Way months because the galactic core is visible right after sunset. August can be affected by monsoon clouds, but post-rain skies are incredibly clear.
Is the Grand Canyon open in winter?
Yes. The South Rim and all our core routes stay open year-round. You'll need warm layers (puffy jacket, gloves, warm socks), but winter offers solitude and some of the most dramatic photo light of the year.
Do your tour prices change by season?
No. Our tour prices stay the same year-round. The 2박3일 투어 is $391 per person, 1박2일 is $323, and 당일투어 from Vegas is $114.75 regardless of when you book. Tour frequency may vary (fewer departures in winter, more vans in summer).
How do I know which tour fits my travel dates?
Message us on KakaoTalk with your arrival/departure dates, starting city (LA or Vegas), and what you want to see. We'll recommend the best-fit tour and let you know availability. Our tours run from LA (2박3일, 1박2일, 당일 to Vegas) and Vegas (당일투어 midnight departure).
